We are actively involved in improving the communities in which we live and work. That includes our hometown of Santa Fe as well as those of our manufacturing facilities in Oxford, NC, and our Western Distribution Center in Sparks, NV. We encourage our staff to volunteer with community organizations during the work day, donating time, sweat and dollars, doing everything from building houses to picking up trash by our local highway.
In 1997 we established the Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company Foundation. This non-profit organization provides grants to preserve, promote and advance American Indian self-sufficiency, language and culture. Through the Foundation, we've made donations to the Indigenous Languages Institute, the American Indian College Fund, the Institute for American Indian Arts, the Women Weavers of Chiapas, the Native American Rights Fund, and the Total Immersion Treaty School. In 2006 the company donated more than $380,000 to the Foundation, and in 2007 we gave more than $400,000. These donations have helped start a scholarship program for single-parent American Indian students at selected American Indian colleges in the United States.
