Our History

Much has happened in our quarter-century of business. What follows merely touches on the highlights and major developments we’ve had.

Our headquarters in the early years was in a shed in the Santa Fe, N.M. rail yard and until 1985, we sold only roll-your-own tobacco.

In 1990, we began our earth-friendly growing programs. These programs led to introducing our 100% Organic Tobacco in roll-your-own pouches in 1991.

In 1992, we moved into a former commercial laundry building. It would remain our home for the next 12 years.
Our expansions continued in 1996, when we opened our dedicated manufacturing facilities in Oxford, N.C.

In 2000, we introduced the first cigarettes made with 100% certified organic tobacco. Also in 2000, we introduced Perique Blend cigarettes, which combine our tobacco blend with natural Perique tobacco aged in oak whiskey barrels.

In January 2002, Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company became an operating unit of what is now Reynolds American Inc. We continue to operate out of Santa Fe, New Mexico. We have the same dedication, the same employees and the same high quality tobacco products.

As our company grew, so did our need for more workspace. To accommodate our growth and get all of our Santa Fe employees under a single roof, we moved to our newly constructed headquarters in Santa Fe at the end of 2004.
